 Brake indicator light comes on

Brake shoes and pads are fairly new (lots of material left on them). Plenty of fluid (probably could be changed).
Why would the brake indicator light (dash) keep coming on?

Presuming your fluid level is okay and the switch in the cap is okay, check your alternator belt; possibly brushes worn as well.
Yota just wired it up that way!

That's how it got wired, even in my truck; brake/charge lights usually come on at the same time if the charging circuit is failing. Only other thing I can think of is your ebrake not being fully retracted.

The light doesn't come on fully. It comes on in a varied dimness and sometimes goes off completely. What about the switch?

The light doesn't come on fully. It comes on in a varied dimness and sometimes goes off completely. What about the switch? That happened in my 98 Tacoma a few years back... Because it was dim, and/or dimming, it was directly linked to the cluster... the R+R the cluster and all was fine. -Nick

The fluid level float in your brake master cylinder has a small hole in it ( from miles of sloshing ). It has some fluid in it now, and it is gradually sinking. Disconnect the wires from the brake fluid reservoir cap and see if it stops coming on.
This solution really eluded me for a long time. Everytime the light would flash, it would kick the cruise control off,, if I had it set.

Thanks Mike. That was it. The Floater was filled with fluid. Disco'd the connection and light went away. Got a new cap and float. Problem solved.

Yer Welcome! I guarantee the posters on this board have helped me lots more often than I've helped them.
BTW -- How much was the replacement cap / float and where did you finally get one? I never pursued replacing mine.
