Power Antenna Replacement 2000 4runner #705146 03/10/06 10:28 PM

Anyone have any tips on replacing a power antenna?

The motor still works but the antenna will not go down. I figure during all the ice we had this year.. it froze in position and then whatever mechanism there is, broke.

Is there any other fix for this other than replacement. I did read somewhere about having to take the inner fender wall out???

any assistance?

Usually you can just replace the mast assembly, around $35-40 from the dealer. This can be done from the top with no messing around in the fender well.

In a nutshell, remove the top nut, turn on the radio...old mast spits itself out. Install new mast lining up gears in the right direction, turn radio off...new mast sucks itself in..tighten top nut.

There are several threads with more detailed instructions around, here is one:

Thanks.

I actually tried a search before posting but didn't find those posts... sorry about that.

This really cool, I've been needing to replace mine for a while, but didn't want to spend the 100 bones to get the dealer to do it.
