So I did some checking today at a local NAPA, to see if they could crossref any filters for me. The only one they could come up with was a Wix 51067. They can order it, so that's good, but do I want them to? Not at $33 per filter! Holy crap!
I need to do some more checking. My Purolator numbers are L27998, L34750, L37733. I also show AC Delco PF2147, BOSCH 986452042, CHAMPION K270, and FRAM PH6355. I'll have to see if anyone has these available locally for less than a king's ransom.
Are these filters super huge, thus justifying the expense, or are these prices simply silly?

4d56 filters are more expensive. Consider this: non-OEM filters usually cost around Php280-350 on the average. A non-oem 4d56 filter costs roughly Php 500.00.
I use ViC C306. It's the preferred non-OEM brand here.
Yes, they are huge.

My Napa gold 1067 was $40 and change ... You still in for the UK group buy ??
The napa gold I bought is still in the box, going on with 5.7L of Delo 400 synth or Rotella T synth on the next change... If I keep that up it will be a $110 oil change for this truck ($40 filter, $28 of oil and $39 for the grease monkey to do the 13 grease nipples underneath)
I did read the oil filter site one fellow posted so I am not sure I want to "pay cheap"... But the Fram I now have on the truck is rated very poor and it cost me $38...
Maybe I will buy 2 of the UK filters first first and cut one open and see whatzupp...

Around here filters cost from $12 to $16 depending on where you buy them.
As for brands, there are many japanese and korean, also some known to you as Purolator and Fram.

the 4d56 uses the same oil filter as 4d55 right? according to rockauto's website the Fram ph2921 works and its $8 and it seems to be instock at couple different parts stores down here.

Humm... And wix calls 51324 out when a cross is done to the Fram you mention. These two filters (The fram PH2921 and Wix 51324) are physically smaller (slightly) than the Napa/Wix 51067. I know the Wix 51067 works and crosses directly to the Mitz part number. Guess the 4D55 used a smaller filter than the 4D56? Here are some links to prove the point... Click on the wix number for all the facts on the 51324. This is for the 51067 .... Again click on the PN for all the specs. BTW... The wix part number appears to be _5_1067. But the box I have has only 1067 printed on it.. Could be a NAPA/WIX part numbering difference.

When I was in NAPA, one guy was calling the part number to the other, who was checking the computer - the older guy told him to drop the "5", so you're on the money there.
Patrick, according to what I've read, the 4D55 and 4D56 filters are not swappable. Hmmmm... I'm gonna go and read Billy's links again...

Just did some close reading: the thread sizes are different, and the drainback valve psi's and max flow rates are different. But the description of the 51067 refers to the Ranger/Dodge of the 85-87 vintage. Did the 4D55 maybe use two different filters, a small one earlier (51324) and then a bigger one (51067) later on?
So the two are not the same. Guess I need to find a place locally that'll sell the 51067 for a more reasonable price, if there is such a thing?

Are these filters super huge, thus justifying the expense, or are these prices simply silly? I wish my morning cup of joe was that big. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> All I dare to use is OEM or Nipparts, preferably OEM and I change my oil on every 10.000 to 15.000 KM's and use good oil. Now I'm running Elf Excellium 5-40w Synth.

Here it is 16 years later and I had an easier time finding my post on filters than the hand written notes - It is for a Galloper now though
