Pickup shell on Tacoma #722265 05/09/06 09:41 PM

A friend of mine is going out west for the summer and asked if he could borrow my camper shell that I'm not using. I told him he's welcome to it; if it fits.

He has a 2001 Tacoma Xtracab. I have a 1990 regular cab pickup. I think his bed dimensions and cab heights are about 77x61.5x22. I just measured my bed and roofline and it's 76.5x60x20. The width is what I'm worried about.

He's across the state from me, so we haven't had a chance to try it. I just wanted to know if anyone has ever run a pickup shell on a Tacoma, and what would be involved to make it work.

He doesn't care about looks and just needs some locking storage for a few months. Any tips?

It'll fit the bed just fine, I've got a friend running a Taco lid on a Truck. The problem is that the cab angle won't be the same. If the canopy has a solid front as opposed to a cab gasket it'll be all gravy.

Cab angle won't be a problem.

It makes sense that a taco cap would fit a truck...just .75" wider at each side and the mounting surface is like 3" on most shells.

I'm worried about the other way around though because the bed rails on a taco aren't that wide, so if a shell is too narrow, it won't work.

Try calling a place that sells caps and ask them if the same model cap will fit both trucks and Tacos.
