Nothing wrong with a Rav-4. It's an excellent vehicle. But it's just a car. It lacks a lot of things that would keep me from taking it on a real 4wheeling trip. Those thing being mainly, lack of skid plates, (motor and tranny oil pans are right in harms way) no low gear, and the suspension is not very heavy duty. It's basically an AWD Camry.
You cant even call it 4wd really. It's AWD. It has a center diff that, on normal driving conditions, puts all the power to the front wheels. When it detects wheel slippage in the front, it transfers some power to the rear. Unlike a real 4x4 truck where you can lock the front and rear wheels together for true 4wd all the time.

"(Note from RAV4World Webmaster: You may wonder why I've allowed Shane & Felicity in the Gallery? I'd like to show that even though they probably had a good time (up to a certain point with their RAV4... it goes to show that with 1.65" taller tires PLUS a 3" lift... having too much FUN off road with a RAV4 (and any other vehicle) can lead to problems. - Happy RAVin' - Kelly Smith"

Old thread, but I've got an OME system up for sale - included is new bump stops. First Rav 4.2 (2nd gen) - $450 + shipping.. That's about 1/2 price. It was pulled a little after 1k miles when the vehicle was sold. ![[Linked Image]](http://lakebox.dnsalias.com/photos/1998%20RAV4/med/Rav4OME.jpg) Please email d_ginther at hotmail.com
