I know this question must have come up before but I can't find any definative info on it. So, what is the largest tire I can fit on the stock rims of my '02 Montero without trimming fenders? Right now I have 265/75R16's on it.

You can get 285/75/16s (33s) on there without a lift and no rubbing. I wouldnt go much bigger cause I havent found any way to regear it and it would be slower than a dog with anything above 33s...I noticed a slight diff in up sizing but it is to be expected...hope this helps...

You can always swap gears from earlier 3.5L XLS which will give you 4.9 instead of 4.3 you have on 3.8L.
And I'll second on tire size. See sig

thanks. That info should be added to the FAQ thread for Gen 3's.

well, I finally got around to getting new tires and went with 285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor's... great looking AT's, btw.
They did fit, but I have some VERY minor rubbing on a clip on the front bumper. Nothing that is a deal-breaker, I just have to make a few adjustments. I'll post up a pic or 2 when ice quit falling from the sky!

I like the looks of em...fills the fenders out well and looks like it should have come on them...the gen 3's have such big body's that 33s actually fill them out well. I think 35s are even better

This Gen III looks awesome with that bull bar. But this is not so common. Anyone knows the part number or a place where to source it from?
