I found a 2 door 4runner for sale for $800 which needs motor work? body interior good/deacent Im told. Im thinking about the 3.4 swap if I purchase it.
The thing I like about it is its the 1st year they made the non removable top in a 2 door, and last I belive. (obviously I like it, since I have one)
What do you all think? Good deal, or what?

I have never seen a 2nd gen. 2door 4runner, i didnt know they existed until reading this post and doing a little research...cant seem to find any pictures of this mystical creature.

Yea you dont see many of them around, hence why I like them. I took mine in for the steering rod relay recall and the guy at the dealership had to call every one over within ear shot to take a look at it. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> he said you dont see too many of these. Ill try and post a pic later tonight.

web page there are two of them on this site. Not mine. You have to search for them under "photo gallery, search trucks" 4runner 90-92 and you can find them in there.

The price is right, and there weren't many imported into the US (compared to 4 dr ones). They're different, but 4 drs is handier. Go for it.

reason is that that the 4 door were classified as a regular car and the 2 doors where a truck.
and the trucks had a higher import tax/tariff.
so, if you were toyota usa, dealer and eventually a buyer, what would you buy?
that's why they lasted only til 1991'ish...
