Body Damage is Cool
Timely! I got my first stone chip last week. I was cursing all the giant non-mudflapped F350s, thinking any minute now I'll get a stone. Then Bang! It was a Pontiac Grand Prix with a flat tire that kicked up a pebble.

Never let it be said that Phil doesn't step up to a challenge! You certainly have me wondering now if they didn't bring in the wrong one. I will head down there topmorrow with your new numbers and let you all know how it works out. Thanks again Phil! I owe you a beer (I think we must be getting close to a case by now!) <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Okay, part name code is the same, 61710

Hold it.. I'm confused... you say part number (61710) is the same... as what? That number doesn't occur in any of your earlier posts... so I have:

JDM Grey Tint option: MB677401
JDM Bronze Tint Option: MB677400
US CAPS Number: MR749156 61710

Is that correct?

Thanks Phil!

Nope, PNC is part number code, which is how they label their diagrams. That's the 61710. The actual part number is the MR or MB number. So you have everything right, 'cept that the US pn shoudln't have the 61710 on the end. 61710 is what both US and Japan use to ID the pic, which then breaks down to the part number. Sorry if I confused the issue. Good luck today!

OK - Apple Auto Glass says the number they had for the '92 Montero was correct. They double checked with Edmonton. The NAGS# they come up with for the '92 Montero is FW711. That is the windshield they brought in. I checked with another company - they said the Montero windshield will not fit - that they went through all this 3 months ago and it was a "nightmare". The guy eventually ordered one from Japan and they installed it for him - total cost: $4000.00
The FW711 that Apple brought in is actually MORE curved than the glass we have in the Pajero.
William (JDM) is getting me a price from Japan. I should hear from him tomorrow. I told him we might be getting several. Anyone got a better solution???

Wrecking yard for NA Montero's ?

I ran Phil's #'s (friend owns a mech shop) and they all match. I check the quarter/body/panels and they all match (JDM vs. NA)

This is definitely something that will need to be addressed, sooner than later.

I looked at a 92 Montero parked beside a 91 Pajero and the windshields to my untrained eye look identical.

My suggestion (disregard it if you've already done it) is to bring in a 91/93 or have them run the windshield part # from 90-95 US Montero's and see if they come up with more than one. I'm probably wrong, but it's possible that the windshield trim/rubber may differ from one Montery/year to the next which may explain a few different windshields.

One of the multitude of importers has to know the domestic replacement #. Just have to find a way to call/track a company/seller/individual who has already done it.

Good luck. I'm sure we'll all be in the same boat soon enough ..

Jesse

ps. Another thought.. have you had them check the other windows as well ? I've seen two different 92 Pajero's with different side windows. One has AS1/AS2 DOT and the other didn't have DOT but had AS2/AS3 and both were different part #'s.

I think what someone (who needs a windshield) needs to do is verify these numbers in Calgary - phone around, get the NAGS number independently - order in the windshield and see if it fits. I've run out of people to phone in Red Deer, and can't get in to Calgary just to have a windshield replaced. I still wonder if maybe Apple brought in the wrong ws or was sent the wrong one from the supplier. Anyone got a cracked windshield and is up for the adventure?

I'll call the local (Vancouver/Vancouver Island) importers/dealers and ask about the windshield. Maybe one of them will be nice enough to shed some light.

I don't have a Pajero yet, but soon enough I will and I'd rather get involved now if I can be of any help at all.

Mechanical parts, I understand need to be shipped in, but body panel/glass/etc... 'should' match up with at least a few american Montero models.

Crossing fingers.

Jesse

That might help - if you could get the NAGS number from them it would be a start!
