i have a problem with my 1988 toyota pick up.It starts good but when i go to give it gas it chokes itself out. They oxygen censor might be bad. Could this be causing the problem. The truck has a slight fluder when it is running. I can drive it but i have too ease on the gas when i first start off. the lines are good and the fuel pressure is good. Please help this is driving me crazy.

Check the big rubber hose from the air cleaner to the TB over real good for cracks. Mine did the same thing and that tube had a tear in it in the bellows section. Started fine but as soon as you gave it gas the engine would torque over, open up the tear and the engine would die or run very erratic.

Man thanks for this info. I checked it out but tomorow i will take it off and go over it real good. I forgot to say it was fuel injected. If this is not the problem do you or anyone else know what could cause this as well. Thanks again for your help

This works for the 3.sl0w and the 22RE

http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/30_V6/throttle_body/ Don't get overzealous with the cleaner; it'll be like flooding a carb.

Kewlynx thanks man i just done what you said. The tooth brush was black. I did not spray a hole lot but it didn't seem to help. Is there any other ideas i can try? when i ease the throtle slowly it does not choke its self, but when i give it a little gas it will either stall or studder like it is going to stall out. Man i am hopping someone has the answer for me. This has been going on for almost a year. Thank you guys for all of your help i am trying everything. Some more ideas please i will try anything.

This problem started a while back. The truck just started getting slugish. It has a real hard time going up hill, it gets a little better after it has been drivin for a half hour but it is realy bad when i first start it up.

How about the fuel filter, when was the last time you changed it ?. if it gets plugged it will cause the problems your having.

>>>*The first instinct when dealing with a computerized system is to suspect a sensor having failed.

But severe hesitation or stumbling associated with increased throttle load is nearly always fuel related.

The action of opening the throttle simply adds air, on a carbed vehicle a pump is used to increase the volume of fuel available or the engine will do exactly as you describe.

A computerized system will demonstrate exactly the same way if it cannot enrich as the throttle is opened quickly.

First is to check the ignition timing, then reset the TPS. Next is a serious vaccum leak, injectors. The description suggests lack of adequate fuel under load.....*EB
