Corey, on pg 9 of this thread, you were working on the differentials. Did I understand your report correctly in that you're using the stock 4.10 gearing for the 35's you're using? I run 33's on mine. After doing the math, I came up with a gear ratio of 5.01 to fool the drive train into thinking it was still turning the stock 27" tires that originally came on my truck when I bought it new. If this gear set were actually available, the truck would accelerate as it did stock and both the speedometer and odometer would once again read true and fuel mileage should also increase. In reality, only 4.88 and 5.29 gear ratio's are the only viable choices available. The 4.88 gears are spot on for spinning a set of 32's whereas the 5.29 set are much better suited to turn 35's; 34.84's to be exact. So why aren't you using 5.29 gearing? Strength shouldn't be an issue with that ratio. 4.10's are just way too high a gear for running 35's in my opinion. I also didn't see any mention of positraction units although I may have missed something somewhere. I like how you compensated for the use of lifting blocks between the springs and axle housing by fabricating the shock setup to help prevent spring wrap. Here are two big thumbs up for an excellent build and for sharing it with all of us!

With a blown 3.4... it's not nearly as necessary, and he'll get better MPG with the 4.10's. My s/c'd 3.4 in my 89' with 33's and 4.10's does fine. Now, with 5.29's, it would be faster, but MPG would be worse and it'd be winding the engine out on the highway.

Now, with 5.29's, it would be faster, but MPG would be worse and it'd be winding the engine out on the highway. To be fair to the person asking the question, neither of these are really true. 4.88's and 35's would put the engine back to nearly stock RPM's, so they wouldn't be "winding out" any more than a stock setup. 5.29's would only increase RPM's by 5% - hardly significant under ~3500 rpm. Both would also likely increase mileage in day-to-day, mixed driving. Numerically lower gears are not a guarantee of mileage - if they were, Toyota would run in the low-3's:1... to be equivelant on stock tires where Corey is on 35's. Gears not only make up for tire size, but added weight as well. Regardless, with the SC and (likely) decreased weight of all of the 'glass, I'm sure he'll be MORE than happy. My SC'd/URD'd 3.4 w/ 5.29's and 37's is okay... always want more.
Brian K. Gallus I have nothing important to say.

Lemme tell you Cory regearing is huge. Believe me you'll notice a huge improvement in drivability especially with a trailer and on the hwy. I was actually shocked at the difference going from 4.10 to 4.56 with 32s made, I think I would have even been happier with 4.88s. Even though you have the SC you'll be wasting some of that power and you won't even know it. FYI with my BFG 32x11.5s and 4.56 my speedo is back to right on. greg is right .. on MY build and the HP I have , the 4:10's should sufice .. cool thing with gears .. is I can do it anytime .. if the 4:10's arnt what I want .. then I can go to 4:88's or 5:29's .. I dont know .. and really no one else does either .. i dont see to meny Trekkers around with blown 3.4's in them ?
let me drive it first !! so I can make an informed decision , instead of just doing it !!

It dosn't really matter, b/c the first time you drive it you're gonna be soooo happy and grinning ear-to-ear w/ this being done, it could max at 30mph and I bet you wouldn't care, lol.

Yea I know what your saying man. The blown 3.4 will have gobs of power compared to the 22r that was in there for sure. IIRC the factory setup for 31s with the 3.4 is 4.10. If you are curious about the drivability gains of gears you could borrow a set of 31s for a couple days and see how it feels. Truck looks killer by the way .
