Hi All,

I don't like the gold sticker stripe along the side of my Montero. Are there any 'easy' ways of removing it?

[Linked Image]

Thanks.

You've got a few options if the strip has not been clearcoated over:

1. you can use a heat gun (usually cost around $20 and are used to help remove flooring and house paint, can find them at any wal-mart). If you do go this route make sure and use the lower of the two heat settings and always keep the heat gun moving. Never, I repeat never, keep the heat gun in the same spot for too long unless you like watching your factory paint melt. I use this process all the time to remove decals and pinstripes from vehicles during the paint prep process. It's not hard at all.

2. They make a wheel that goes on your drill that can be used to safely remove the stripe and adhesive that won't burn thru the paint if used correctly. You can get one of these decal removing wheels at most any parts store that carries paint and body supplies.

3. Spend the better part of a weekend using your fingernails and anything else you can to get the stripe off, then using laquer thinner to remove the adhesive. Personally I would opt for one of the first two options.

Hope this helps... Cole

Hair dryer on the hottest setting, gloves for protection from the heat, plastic scraper, and lots of patience. I've removed vehicle decals and stickers that way before. It can be slow, but it works well.

That, or cover it with duct tape.

I have one of these and have used it many times. It works really well, but it's a lot like a giant eraser. It leaves a big mess on the floor. It sweeps up though.

We used them when I worked at Chevy to take the 3M sticky tape from trim moulding off the doors when we replaced them.

"Goo Gone" will take the adhesive off very well without damaging the paint. I de-striped mine (only one side had the stripe anyway ) by just using a hair dryer on the tape and goo-gone-ing the adhesive after.

Yup, that's the Raider in the background left.

Through the 4-door you can see the red and green Monteros that Clarence (cjsmontero) bought in October.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that part. Removing the decal is one thing. Removing the underlying adhesive is another. Goo-gone, OOPS, or other like products work well and are quick.
