Insurance Co. doesn't really care which bumper you put on your vehicle, however if the bumper you put on is more expensive than the one that your vehicle calls for you'll need to pay the difference. Did they use OE bumper cover of a/m cover? And did they figure the impact absorber? What about the Bumper Re-inforcement? If they figured all 3 that should cover the cost of dave's bumper. Just make sure that the body shop you use knows that you're going to use a different bumper.

Just my 2 cents, my old Sportage was vandalized, someone threw a pumpkin at it and put a big dent in the rear door.
I reported it and my insurance co. inspected the car, assessed what they thought it would cost to repair, and sent me a check for the amount.
I decided NOT to fix it and spent the money on other stuff <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
The insurance co. should be OK with it, since they have it on record that the damage was there before, if I tried to report the same thing later they would know.

yes, they figured the energy absorber along with the bumper cover, the bumper cover might be a/m but the price was the about the same as the price I got from the Kia dealer for factory parts. Along with paint it comes to around $700, which is way more than Dave's bumper. So I should be good to go. I'll just have to let insurance company know what I plan on doing.

Honestly they don't care how or even if you repair the vehicle read Nuke's post above, perfectly acceptable. If however you have a Lien holder they might want to know what you're doing since in reality they own the vehicle not you. As long as you don't try to claim the damage a second time (Insurance Fraud is a Felony) the insurance company really doesn't care what you do.

That's a REALLY good point, my Sportage was paid off already when it was damaged so I didn't think of that.
