Thinking of selling my T-100 for a Honda Ridgeline--am I crazy #875466 03/16/08 02:56 AM

My T-100 SR5 Extended cab 4x4 has 113,000 miles on it. It is in great shape except for some light hail damage on the front hood. I really like the truck but need something with a little more backseat room since my youngest child is 14 years old and 6'1" tall.

I am in love with the new Tundra crewmax, but realistically they are out of my price range. I do not haul heavy loads anymore since my landscaping is finished at home.

I realize the Ridgeline is not heavy duty and looks unsightly. But at this time I just want a little smoother ride with more room. I might just upgrade to a used Tundra double cab 2007 or older.

Am I crazy to even consider changing vehicles? The mileage for my T-100 is comparable to the Ridgeline. The Ridgelines are on close out these days with the new model coming out soon--$6,000-8,000 off MSRP.

Thanks for your help, Brad

Ridgeline is nothing more than a car with a chevy avalanche-esque body on it. I would suggest if you want more room and a truck to get a doublecab tundra (the older models) or a 4Runner if you want an SUV.

Yes, you are very crazy. Very. Did I say very?

Buy an 05-06 Tunrda Double Cab or even an 05+ Tacoma Doublecab. You'll be very happy.

I don't think you're crazy. If I were buying today, I'd probably spring for a Ridgeline. I don't need much of a truck these days and 4 doors with a smaller body would work great for me.

One benefit my T100 has than a new Ridgeline wouldn't... no vehicle payments. That's tough to beat.

But there's one thing that concerns me about my T100: the rear seat riders heads are against the rear glass. It's not a safe environment now that the kids have grown out of their child seats. I don't have an easy fix for that other than getting another vehicle.

Nuts you are. For rear seat head gear, you can modify to put in head bumpers if needed. If you do not usually use rear seats, so what. 300 per month for new car smell? 3600 can buy a pretty usable T100, cash, in a year. Buy 7 and you can have one for each day of the week!!!! And still be ahead.

Okay guys, I so I had a bad dream. Totally forgot how reliable and trouble free my T-100 has been these past 5 years. Only repairs were the normal - ball joints, starter (did myself) timing belt, water pump, belts, now I have valve cover gasket leak and need the front bearings repacked. Not too bad.

Body Damage is Cool
I've got friends that have the Ridgeline, and love it. They work well. Biggest thing I've observed is that people coming from a car background like the Ridgeline, those coming from a truck background are disapointed.

Shop with the kid! At 6'1", he needs to spend some time in the rear to see if it fits. From what I hear, the Tundra's rear seat is highly disapointing.

Need a Spot
If you change your mind and decide to sell, I'm looking for a T100 - I live down in the Springs. Or anyone else with a spare 3.4 Xtra Cab lying around.
Thanks, Andy

Tomorrow I go to the dealership and say goodbye to a good friend. I have had my T-100 for 7 years and it has 120,000 miles on it. Barely broken in.

I went shopping on Tuesday and was figuring on leasing the Ridgeline. But when push came to shove and I realized I would be paying for 7 years if I decided to keep the vehicle I was leaning toward buying until the payment came out to $600 a month. No thanks. So threw in the T-100 so I could get a lower payment.

Anyway the dealer gave me $7,000 for my 1997 T-100. I thought that was a great price since my T has hail damage on the front hood and some on the side. On Edmonds the trade-in price is more around $4000. We were paid $3000 by the insurance company back in 2002, when we lived in Kansas and did not get it repaired.

I initially told them there would be no trade so they did not up the price of the new auto when I threw in the idea of a trade. I did tell them I had one more dealer to check out a few miles down the road - Kuni Honda.

Anyway I will have a T-100 factory service manual for sale and a set of Aisin manual hubs for sale. I will give anyone on this forum first chance.

Just e-mail me.

Thanks, Brad
