Hi All,
In an attempt to find out why my Kia won't start I've bought an OBD code reader, but can I find the connector??? Can I heck!
Before I start to disassemble my dash could someone please post a picture as I've looked everywhere?
For what it's worth this is a Australian right hand drive, long body, 2000 model.
Cheers
Andrew

OK! 96 and onward (North American models) was OBDII with the connector under the drivers side knee airbag, very visiable However you might have a OBDI car, not sure about the land of OZ but other areas of the world didn't switch to OBDII till as late as 2002 If so there is a data port in the engine bay, you can use a jumper wire between to connectors and have the comp 'flash' the code via the CEL.

My OBD connector is definitely not that obvious. I have a diagnostics port in the engine bay near the battery, does mean my vehicle is definitely OBDI? If so then using the pinning info on this site: http://www.troublecodes.net/Kia/ I just tried to read the codes out: nothing. But this site says you need to start and run the vehicle for 3 minutes which is going to be tricky considering it won't start at all. Any advice on whether this vehicle is OBD1 or 2 and from there where the connector might be or how I read the fault codes from an OBD1 vehicle without starting it??? There isn't any plate or sticker under the bonnet that says OBDII but I don't know if this was a requirement outside of the US. Cheers Andrew

Well i'd have to say if you don't have an OBDII port then you don't have an OBDII car.
Have you checked that the timing belt is still intact, and that you don't have loose connector.
Will she turn over but not catch, or won't crank at all?

So far the timing belt is ok, I have fuel coming out of the filter (replaced fuel filter anyway), voltage at fuel pump is ok and about ~3A going to the pump when the engine is turned over. I have sparks at number 1 and 3 plugs and all the fuses are ok. It turns over fine but will not start, it died in mid traffic so I think the immobilizer is an unlikely cause.
Any ideas very welcome.
Cheers

Did you check the MAF? I have not tried with the Kia but I know with the mazda I drove for a while it would NOT run with the MAF not working.

No I haven't, is there anyway to check it without running the vehicle? As I note the service manual requires the vehicle to be running to check the voltage range.

not sure the maf would cause it not to start, one time when I was working on my nissan maxima, 1998 , I forgot to hook the maf back up after installing a starter (yea its buried) anyway, it started and idled fine, but anything over 1000 rpms made the car run like crap, so much that it would actually slow down, popped the plug back in the maf and off i went.
not sure if the maf is similar for the kia in relation to it not starting

my 2001 has a vac. line on the intake I would try just a light spray of starter fld to see if it would try and start, if it does i would think fuel somewhere
