Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey Guys,
last week my wife tells me the Pajero just won't start - dead battery - I just figured that she left the lights on or something so I go out and charge the batteries. No problems for a couple of days until I have to drive it around town yesterday. I started to turn over slower and slower each time then finally wouldn't turn over at all. funny thing is all the accessories work fine (windows up and down, etc). So I jump one battery from the other - starts right away.
There is a 80a fuse on the one battery could this be the problem?

Check your alternator indicator next time you attempt to start... If it does NOT ignite while the key is at the ON position it is a sign of a failed alternator,

Recently happened to me. I was accustomed to Alternator failure = lamp on 100%. On my Paj lamp was off at all times including the dash light check stage at the key "on" position, turned out to be a 3 day head scratcher.. But with dual batteries she sure did tick along for a while till the lights and (internal)fan died...

Need a Spot
I run a repair shop in new mexico but im no expert on the Pajero Ive never seen one seeing how they were never sold in the U.S. but they have a dual battery set up? and you jump one battery to the other and it starts, that sounds like you have a bad connection beetween the batteries and the one doing all the work is going bad. Check your battery connections and see if they are corroded the black and grey corossion they get on them is just as bad as the white build up they get. If you can get your hands on a volt meter with the vehicle running check voltage at each battery, should be 13.5 to 14.5 volts. That would tell you if your alternator is working. And if there is a significant voltage difference between batteries you would have a bad connection. Hope this helps.

May sound obvious, but check the alt belt. I'm told they often slip, and the one on mine seems to need regular ajustment. I think the nut comes undone over time.

This was my thinking too. The batteries are connected in parallel, so "jumping" them shouldn't do anything unless there is a bad connection.

To the OP: The 80A fuse is your main charging circuit. If that's blown, your alt isn't recharging the batteries.
