im looking at double cab tacoma 4x4s right now, need to sell the T100 first.

I briefly looked at the DC Taco's. I could probably fit one with a 5 ft bed in my garage. But the Tundra is too big for my modest needs.

I'm a bit turned off by the gas mileage of the Taco. But it's pretty much inline with the Ridgeline. The RL has a much more refined interior than the Taco. But I can get a manual tranny in the Taco (which I would like this time around). OTOH, I can get a RL much cheaper (I think) than a Taco. The RL currently has a $4500 cash incentive whereas the Taco only has a $1000 cash incentive. That's for '08 models.

I'm a bit hesitant to buy a used Taco 4x4 since it has a part time 4wd setup. I suspect many folks are not aware that you are not supposed to use 4wd on dry pavement.. and I expect most will have to play with it not knowing. Maybe it's not a big deal... but it concerns me.

I'm waiting to hear how bad the proposed insurance settlement is before I decide what to do.

One quick question: can I take those Aisin's off my T100 and put them on a new Taco? I hate that Toyota took manual hubs off the 4x4 trucks.

I didn't know if the Taco has the same spline count as the T100. Is replacing the flange on the Taco the same as the T100? I was thinking they were different.

Edit: a bit of research turned up this article. But I'm not sure if it is pertinent to 2nd gen Tacos like the 2008. Or is that considered 3rd gen?

If it weren't for the front damage, I'd wonder about whether or not it would be totaled. The car that hit me is in the above link too. I think he almost missed me, but just caught me in the left rear wheel. I can't see any marks on my trailer hitch anywhere that would indicate that was hit. Then again, it may have caused other damage to the driveline I can't see making the repair total more than the vehicle is worth. I think in NC they total if the repair exceeds 75% of the value of the vehicle.

I think the front chassis is pretty easy. Except paying for most of this stuff at the dealer. Its hard to find a parts truck or two, that would make all the difference in the world.

yanno..... I only see one pic of the front frame there, and it looks ilke the rail held its shape?? The windshield is not cracked either...

The front radiator support, wheel wells etc. are all minor welds, if you did not have to touch the frame you could do it with a hobby welder.

The frontend could possibly be pulled out depending on how bad the radiator support is bent. But the rear looks like its shifted and bent on the frame.

I think next time around I look for a used truck Im gonna nab a used tundra, 04 or so is good, it seems to have a deeper bed on the doublecab models-I hope it has one on the x-cabs. The new tundra is WAY to big for me, and the 4.7L has plenty of power for my tastes imho.

I honestly feel the perfect sized fullsize trucks were the older F series and Chevy/Dodge, too bad they all became these bulky huge things.

The adjuster says the frame is twisted. Another guy who fixes up wrecks and sells them told me to let it go... not worth repairing.

I went to the storage lot and pulled off my tags tonight and told my beloved truck goodbye. I'm not going to retain it.

Sorry man, it truly sucks but I had the feeling it was bent by the way it looked and the impact.
