Looks to me like it was set up to be a lease rig. If you look at your second picture on the first page BJ....about 2/3 of the way up the left side of the pic you can see another "pole holder"...my guess is that it was for securing a top for the passengers in the rear.

Now I'm guessing there is some kind of support on the windshield also.. I totally missed that little piece of pipe.

The windshield could have a channel on it. That is what my CJ5 has for securing the top to the windshield.

Ok I surfed a little. Here are some photos of CJ 6's. Thefirst is a poster showing the side rails filled with workers. Please notice the side step. I have thoght this was added by the owners but now see it was from the factory.

The 2nd is a photo of one with the rear pipes and DUALS!

[img][image]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v231/BigJimM/Picture4.jpg[/img][/image]

Then we have one with the aluminum top and also the back pipes.

And last is one used at a fire dept which is utilizing the pipes.

Ok, it sounds like then it is probably being held in some sort of family trust. If you can find out who the trustee is he will have the authority to dispose of property for the beneficiaries. Since nobody knows about it, or tried to do anything with it, you could probably talk the trustee into taking it off his hands for a little bit of cash.
that is a rare find.

Good question about the pipes on the rear. My brother used to have a 59 cj5 that also had those.

As you can see, they were not used for a top (at least in this case)

but it did make an excellent flag holder
