ACTUALLY THERE ARE ADAPTERS OUT THERE THAT WOULD BOLT IT ALL UP FAIRLY EASY , BUT THE AUTOMATIC TRANS WILL NEVER LIVE BEHIND A V8 UNLESS YOU REALLY BABY IT , AND HOW LIKELY IS THAT WITH A V8 , YOU WOULD NEED THE ADAPTERS THAT ARE USED TO HOOK THE 2.8 ENG FROM THE FIERO TO THE V8 CHEVY , ARCHIESV8,S ,COM HAS THEM JERRY

That's good info! I was going to get rid of the wife's 01 upon return to the states, but if this adapter will work for a SBC, it'll work for a 4.3 Vortec. And, THAT, is what I'll be looking to do if I keep it...

Thanks!

The thing I have to look into is how the transmission is controlled. In my other truck I'm doing a full drivetrain swap with an older 700R4 that requires no electronic control, so the 4.3 computer was flashed so that it got rid of any reference to the 4L60E or other original equipment needing to be removed so the engine can run on it's own. The other good thing about the later 4.3s is that the ECUs are designed to be in the engine compartment, so no real creativity required in mounting boxes and running wires.

Anyway, I'm rambling at this point. My wife really likes her Rodeo, but I don't want to put another 3.2 into this thing, so if this adapter works out, it'll solve my issues.

I have an email out to V8 Archie and will post up what I find out in terms of being able to pick up one of the plates.

I do not know, my own experience with 3.2 Rodeo engine had been pretty good till I totaled the vehicle around 65K+ miles. It was very nice and reliable, no excess oil consumption, nothing bad. The auto tranny was flawless either. I had had no engine/tranny related problems. May be I was unusually lucky, but I'd not hesitate to use the stock Rodeo 3.2 engine. I was not gentle with that vehicle: I was 'wheeling often, and I drove with excess speeds on the interstates. But I always used synthetics everywhere around the vehicle.

My 3.5 Axiom engine + Aisin tranny combination is even better.

I got the truck with around 70k miles on the clock and it was fine. I, too, went synthetic everywhere and changed fluid religiously. Now, with 108k, it's burning oil BAD. Oh well. That 4.3 Vortec makes good power and gets decent gas milage to boot (if you don't keep your foot on the floor). Anyway, I'll figure it out. I just don't want to do this all over again in 100k miles...

I guess we're getting OT and staying there. Sorry...

Ok, got through my emails after my 2 day hotspring hiatus, and Archie wrote back.

$395 for a new aluminum adapter or $300 for a used steel adapter. This is what he uses to mount SBC to 60* V6 (2.8) bolt pattern transmission in the Fieros.

I'll order one and see how this project pans out once I get back to the states. I think the wife is stoked about getting to keep her rig, but moreso about not having to cough up 5 years of car payments on what I WAS going to buy her.

Anyway, I'll keep you posted as the order goes through. If you want his email address, let me know and I'll send it to you in a PM.

Thanks again, Jerry. The amount of info you have in that head of yours is astounding!

Happy holidays, all!

yeah that would be great i appreciate it greatly ,im laid off right now and cant stomach paying 1600 dollars for a used rodeo engine that has a lot of bad reviews, but the wife just loves her rodeo , and i know if she felt the 4.3 power shed go nuts,so thanks again for the help.

Well, it's official. The wife told me today that she wants me to save her Rodeo and to go forth with the engine swap. It will happen pretty rapidly once I get back to the states since I already have the 2002 4.3 Vortec on the stand and the wiring is configured for stand alone operation. The adapter plate will be ordered and shipped shortly after the first of the year. All that's left is to convince Dallas to dedicate some of his VERY valuable time to me at StinkyFab.

Dallas, are you reading this???

This means I'm on the market for another engine for my project. I spied a 5.3 Vortec for cheap. I think it will be mine...

More to come, but I'll start my own thread when the time comes to actually do the swap.
