I'd like to show you my other money pit, a 1985 Bayliner Capri 1600 16' runabout with a 85hp Chrysler Force outboard. When I'm not camping and 4wheeling, I like to go boating. I live 15 minutes away from the Ohio river, and 30 minutes from a big lake. And there are a bunch of other lakes a little further away. Boating is pretty popular in this area. I bought the boat 3 years ago. Ran it for 2 seasons. Long story short, I found the deck was rotten and the transom as well. So I took on the project of re-doing the deck and transom, on the cheap. This boat is really just a starter boat, not worth more than a grand or so. I wasn't going to spend TOO much time and money on it. But I do want it to be safe for my family. Here she is the first season out ![[Linked Image]](http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1170/jul21004hu4.jpg) The soft spot I was feeling in the bow after digging at it a bit ![[Linked Image]](http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8328/rot003medium.jpg) More rot ![[Linked Image]](http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/6512/rot002medium.jpg) Tore the deck up ![[Linked Image]](http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2674/dscf1986medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4300/dscf1985medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/2999/dscf1979medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/2663/rot008medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1826/rot009medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/9011/rot007medium.jpg) Pulled the motor ![[Linked Image]](http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/4557/rot015medium.jpg) Transom looked good at the top, but was mushy rotten at the bottom [img] http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/1037/rot014medium.jpg[/img] Deck installed [img] http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4205/deck1stlayer004medium.jpg[/img] Here is the hole I previously patched in transom, ground down(happened when motor fell during tow, probably what caused leak) [img] http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/3540/2ndlayerandtransom014me.jpg[/img] Here's the pump I'm going to use for a bilge pump [img] http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/3343/2ndlayerandtransom012me.jpg[/img] I'm currently installing the wood in the transom. Almost done, just have to fiberglass it in. Next is painting the gas tank area. Then carpeting. Then reinstall the seats and clean them really good. Then install the motor, and GO BOATING! In the near future I will install a temp gauge and tachometer. Currently it only has a speedometer.

Is the big lake your refering to Ceasers Creek? My father in-law lives in West Chester. He goes there alot. I went out there once on his boat with the family. Awesome place. We pulled the boat right up to a bank and had a family picnic on the shore. There was even a picnic table out there.

No, Caesars Creek is about an hour away though. I've never actually been there, but plan on going.
I was referring to East Fork Lake. You can also pull right up to the shore at the "beach".
There's also Rocky Fork Lake that I want to visit.

Make sure you've got an access panel for the bilge pump Adam. About the time you need in there will be about the time you need in there FAST. Had a halibut trip cut short.
We were way out in Prince Wm Sound a few years ago on a friend's boat; did an overnighter. I was the first one up in the AM, noted the boat was listing. Luckily the night before he had showed me where a few safety items were; bilge pump had floated, so it's switch never kicked on. Held it down until the compartment cleared; 20 minutes later, same deal.
Enyhoo, we pulled up and at 40kt/hr, it took us 2.5 hours to get back into Valdez. Initially, we thought the output drive seals were leaking. R&R- dumped 'er in a nearby lake, still leaking. Got to beating around on the transom, damned thing was rotten near to the point of failure; this was on a 21 ft ocean beastie.
Looks like you kept busy this winter!!!

The bilge pump will be mounted next to the battery, which is just left of the photo of the transom. Easy access. This boat never had a pump. Will run a simple hose into the bilge area to pick up water. I had thought about building a hatch, but decided against it. Might add it later, I just want to get finished! Yea, I hear ya on the rotten transom. That was the EXACT problem I had with this boat. (one of them at least) I sealed her up GOOD, thats NOT going to happen this time! Here's an update: I finished and painted the transom. ![[Linked Image]](http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/1098/finishing001medium.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/8760/finishing002medium.jpg) Laid the carpet down. Still have to get another can of spray adhesive and trim the carpet for a final fit. ![[Linked Image]](http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/9057/finishing003medium.jpg) Next up....re-installing the seats and cleaning everything really good. Simple green and then a magic eraser.

Cleaned the interior with simple green. Cleaned a lot of the gunk, but there is still a lot of stains. Tomorrow I will use the magic erasers. I really hope they work. ![[Linked Image]](http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/8134/finishing007medium.jpg) And my daughter Hannah got in the boat for the first time. ![[Linked Image]](http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/6454/firsttimeinboat018mediu.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2043/firsttimeinboat011mediu.jpg)

Aw-riight! Those smiles tell me it was worth all that work. Boat looks nice for its age, Adam. WELL DONE!
