to put it simple i build robots and play with micro controllers. so i thought it was time to apply it to my car. right now i have something called a dorkboard which ia an arduino bare bones clone...if u dont know what any of that is search google...lots of info really fun stuff to tinker with. and the dorkboard is hooked (for now) up to an rfid tag reader and two relays. (again google rfid if u want info) this will at some point unlock my car and pop my driver door by just placing the card in range of the reader... cool huh? anyone else mess with this kinda stuff or interested in atempting a project like this? i can document it if you would like..heck i'll even make kits (in small numbers). i just think its cool to see an older car with concept car features

electronics are good to a point, but when it comes to opening a car door I think I will keep with what I got. to many things can go wrong with electronics, like a relay going off because a hard hit, gee my door just popped open and I am on the ground.

i use an avr micro controler it costs 12. two small reed relays. about 5. an automotive relay another 5. the rfid reader ~ 50 and the door pop solenoid (30 on ebay). so the basics are around 100. im also replacing my door handle with a piece of plexi that the rfid reader can bee seen thru. kinda like a shaven door but different.. if u want to se emroe of this kinda stuff check out http://www.arduino.cc/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl and www.letsmakerobots.com its fun stuff to play with

Pretty slick, I may not be of the mind to put it on my 4x4 (less is more when I'm bouncing it off rocks), however I think you'll find a huge market for that with the import tuners and the hot rod crowd. I'd be all over that if I was rebuilding my '66 Galaxie (again).
If I had a hammer.....
