I guess I was a "little" harsh. I just get upset when it comes to folks making a business out of sending troops into combat. He made money, by skimming, and outright taking bribes from war contractors.(Bell, Douglas, General Motors...etc) As far as I'm concerned, he was one step away from pulling the trigger himself. I know that in polite society, it is not right to talk badly about the dead, but this guy even made money from his book, when he made his apology to the vets.....I suppose I should have mellowed some with time, but that is a flaw in my make up.....Be cool.....Mike

I watched him send 50k of my contemporaries off the war, the blacks and the stupid and the lazy, and arm them with crap and not let them win. He was a bean counter at Ford before they let him run down the military with decisions like the F4 Phantom II, which had to be used by the Navy, the Air Force, and the Marines because it was more efficient that way, and who gives a damn if it works out right in the field.
I won't miss him, either...

Bay of Pigs, bad Cuban Missile Crisis, good Vietnam, bad
Looks like the bad's win and the good was a hell of a gamble.

We ran a med call on the evening of July 4th. A Vietnam vet having flashbacks. All he could say was "Get Down", "Did they get ya" and "Watch out for gooks". His wife said he was in Vietnam in 1968. Even after 40 years, that war still haunts those that were there. Somehow, I doubt that vet would be sad to hear of McNamara's passing.
To all those that served.

Well, I wasn't going to squeak; but, ....
The two worst Secretary's of Defense in recent history are McNamara and Rumsfeld.
I have a 35+ year history in Dept of Defense beginning at the height of Viet Nam. Those two clowns are by far the worst to be in a "leadership" position.
Good riddance. Hope the other follows soon.

I have a very staunch Rep friend who looked at me like I told him his mother was a Nazi when I told him what I thought of Rumsfeld. Glad I didn't serve under that turd.
