A/C Belt Question #956819 08/03/09 02:30 AM

Working on my OBA and was attempting to put a new belt on my compressor, havn't had one on in 3 years. I couldn't even get the belt to go from the crank to the compressor, it was that tight, don't even throw the tensioner in the mix, had that all the way loose. Is this thing supposed to be hella tight? Both Napa and Schucks had the same belt. I don't have a air pump, that belt is 11" longer, way too long. So does this thing just have to be He-Manned on or what?

Did you loosen the tensioner for the AC? Yep, it's tight. The belt for an FJ60's air pump is hellish compared to the 22Rx.

Tensioner is all the way loose. Seems so tight that it almost wouldn't need a tensioner, or the tensioner would be all the way loose.

Schucks and napa had 17345 as the part number, way too small. Ended up with napa part #9350. Fits great, easy to get on and the tensioner is midway through it's range, but now the compressor is noisy so probably needs a rebuild. Suppose I should expect that after it sitting for 3 years.
