and you don't need a boost gauge with vacuum...diesels do not have engine vacuum as there are no throttle plates...hence having a vacuum pump.

I wouldn't buy that boost gauge, since it reads in inHg (inches of Mercury) and not psi, which is more common these days.
Unless you can do this calc on the fly: 1 inHg = 0.491098 psi I think I should be able to just decide where my limit should be in psi, and Like having a speedometer in km and working out where 70mph is or whatever, mark it either physically or mentally, and just not go over that?

yes, don't get a gauge that has vacuum and boost readings. Diesel engines do not have vacuum like gas engines so the vacuum half of the gauge is useless. it will still work fine though if you choose to get it.
