While I have a personal interest in the topic, I would like this thread to be a resource for anyone contemplating doing a SAS

What vehicle type and year? 1995.5 Rodeo

front: v1 - waggy D44 converted to 8 lug. v2 - dodge D60
rear: v1 - cab n' chassis 14-bff. v2 - swap out to srw hubs
Leaf or Coil? Leaf, started out with wagoneer 4-pack
If Leaf,
Spring over or under?
spring over, shackle reversal.
Locker? If so, which one?
D44 was an OX then D60 a full spool.
How did you handle the steering issues?
D44 - histeer using SRE's. D60 - histeer w/ behind the knuckle tie rod and using ball joints.
In retrospect, what would you do differently?
dialing in the front spring rate as been difficult, battling firmness vs height, though flex never has been a problem. length and angularity for the front driveshaft has been a big concern with shackled reveresed SOA, probably my number 1 challenge in the project. some sort of histeer/crossover was a must. a few problems with undersized braking components after changing out the calipers on all four corners.

what would i do different/ not much at this point i can drive it on the street and rides pretty good, tires make a big difference, i use to have dunlop mud rovers and now have km2 the km2 handles on the street very nice. Don

1990 Trooper
Dana 44 3/4 ton narrowed and converted to 6 lug ARB 5.38s.pinion rotated up. Bought it from Travis after he went D60.

Trooper stock rear leaves up front, shackle forward, Ford pickup shock towers, spring over axle. Timbren bumpstops.

Stock steering box, crossover. The axle is about 5" forward of stock position.

2" spacers on the rear axle Isuzu 12 bolt to widen the track to match the front.

I never made any effort to pursue extreme suspension travel. I have always been happy with the rear suspension flex. So using rear leaves up front figured I'd be happy, I was right

Biggest problem for me, was figuring out that I really needed a rear cv driveshaft. Shimmed the rear axle up & new cv driveshaft,no more highway vibes.

To regain 4 hi use. I should get a cv front shaft also.

went with coils
started with a lockrite, then arb, now open
Handled great with the dana 44, could drive highway speeds, now i need to dial in the dana 60, been about a year that i have needed to do some adjusting, just not enough time

custom steering (.25" wall, 1.5" DOM tubing for steering links
modified pitman arm
relocated oil filter
36" Swampers on 15x10 black rockcrawler rims
Poly bushings throughout

Once I replaced all the bushings with poly, the thing drives really well!! I agree that tires make a difference, and will be changing mine soon.

Overall, i really enjoy the truck. I will say that a small part of me misses the IFS due to the fact that I liked to prove to the J$$ps that IFs could do it too. The new project will stay IFS.
I can still do 70 on a level freeway, and running around town is no problem.

How did you handle the steering issues? Standard crossover. I found out later that the steering arm needed to be redrilled closer to the center of the knuckle to allow lock to lock steering due to stubby pitman arm.

In retrospect, what would you do differently? I would have drilled the arm before I put all the dents in the doors.
