Hi guys! I just bought a 2002 service manual and the electrical troubleshooting manual for our Sportage directly from Kia. If any one needs something from that, I would gladly scan it and send it to you.

Me 2.....Power Door Locks.
First off, my doors all lock and unlock still, just not how they used to.
I used to be able to unlock all doors from either of the locks with 2 turns to the right, and they would stay that way. Now when I turn the key 2 times to the right all doors unlock.....but everyone needs to be at the ready when this is done, because they lock again in about 1 second. I can't remember if I can lock all doors from either lock with 2 turns to the left, but when I do that it does turn the alarm on. I will check and see if I can I guess and let ya know. I am just glad they still lock and unlock at all...lol

Well..it seems every sporty has its own way with door locks. On mine, the driver key lock will lock/unlock all doors (ONE key turn, not two), and it arms the alarm when locking. Alarm is not armed when locking from the driver door inside button. I think all of that is according to the book.
When armed, unlocking from the passenger side keylock will blow the alarm ON. I then have to insert the key in the ignition to kill the sound.
The passenger side keylock usually locks /unlocks this door only..but occasionally it will act on all 4 doors. The electrical connections tied to the passenger door key lock are obviously gone haywire...I can live with it. I must just remember to never unlock from the passenger side if the alarm is armed. ONly do it from driver side.
NOw, the rear passenger door will not unlock easily now, but that is a mechanical problem and the problem is the same when unlocking from the keylock, the inside driver door button, or the actual door knob itself. I can hear/feel the electrical action trying to act, but the blockage is mechanical. I have to pull hard and keep the pull while trying to open the door, either from the inside or the outside. That will need some oil/WD40 action after tearing the door panel out.

You haven't mentionned anything about the tail gate. According to this manuel here( I will show the electric diagram here as soon as I find a way to do that!)there is an actuator in the tail gate. On mine, if all four doors are locked and the alarm is on, I can open the tail gate without blowing the alarm and when I close it back, the alarm re-arms itself again. With the spare out of the way, one would think that the tailgate could pop open when you unlock the doors, otherwise, why the actuator? Mine doesn't do that.

But only the drivers door actuator works now anyway. My sounds the alarm alot when unlocking from the drivers side.
