Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 11/11/14 07:34 AM

Was trying to locate James Webb who used to be on here as JW but he stopped posting a while back and I've lost contact with him.

Anyone still in touch with James? Is still driving his SR?

How about Ray Miles (selimyar), Chad (sapper), etc.? Anyone know what they're up to these days and if they still have their Monteros?

I know Guy from Mass. sold his red 2-door and now has an FJ.

We've had plenty of characters on here, that's for sure.

Grandpa Bill, SeerAtlas, Old Colt, Bob Shaw. A million others I have forgotten. This is the first forum I joined, way back when, so I guess I'm more interested in this one than any other since.

It's kind of funny how full circle some of our stories end up, like how years after Lloyd Swartz sold off his '90 SWB, it ended up a mile from Toasty's house, sat at that guy's place for years and now Toasty has it and Lloyd is recounting the problems it needed to have fixed. I have a feeling Lloyd may end up driving it again one day, even if it's just for a few minutes.

That sucks.

Bottom Feeler, Dr. Deeptrack sold out of the Montero game a couple of years back when he got rid of his Gen 1 2dr. He left me a bunch of parts out front one night when I wasn't around and I think he lives back in TX. Interesting guy.

Not a easy game for some .. Mitsu's are very miss understood' sort of machine's for most ..

You all here are great ... But at times the forum can be real hard on someone that thinks not as the masses do here does not help..

OldColt was in last week late night on the 'Who's Online' page ...

I haven't posted in quite some time and only recently started lurking after a long absence. I still have the '91 limo and it is running again. I just recently made efforts to start some of the long neglected maintenance and repairs. In the meantime, I've been driving a Jetta TDI.

Sorry to hear about your current situation fasteddy. I appreciate all the help you've given me in the past.

Haven't posted for awhile - the Red 90 SWB is gone and there wasn't much I could do about it (long very sad story).... I think someone else wanted it.....

Have the Black 92 LWB (1st LWB) 2.8TD A/T which has under gone a nice transformation in the past year.....

Some parts here are difficult - some very easy......

I'm still here. Sold my Montero SR to Sparkem in 2004 maybe. Moved to Alice Springs, AU in 2009 & bought a 2004 Pajero 3.2 DiD. Lived there 4 years & sold the Paj when I moved to TX. No Montero but still like reading about everyone else's stories.

I possibly have the second oldest Reged (join date). Can't remember who has the one older than me that I've seen...

Good ol' 4x4wire, I didn't even have a license to drive when i registered on this forum. I remember I had an expired learners permit and my junkyard '88 Montero, Lordtunks and I were roommates and he had an '88 Montero that was something like 13 numbers down the assembly line from mine.
I learned to drive in his Monty then I bought mine from the junkyard, knowing nothing about cars we slapped a cylinder head and carburetor he had laying around on it and drove that thing around like it was under warranty.
We then got PA_JERO for a roommate and turned him on to Mitsu 4x4's with a 1984 Mighty Max SPX turbo diesel. PA_JERO forced ClayTK into a Montero, we peer pressured StokerExplosion into a Montero. A lot of that goes around these parts, I think for every 1 OG Az Crewer there's been 5 brought on (It's like a cult in these parts). Then there was a rumor that JBFP was our illegitimate father but that's never been confirmed.
I think the last time i checked there were like 15 legit Az Crewers and maybe 25 fair weather Crewers. We have a few MIAs and a few others that are still IN but driving NON Monteros <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 11/25/14 10:02 PM

I have not been here that long, but still got my lot full of Mits's. The 2 87's and my 01. Both 87's are no longer registered. One is still running though. It leaks oil and tranny fluid. Smokes like a chimney till it gets warmed up. Needs Brakes overhauled they are leaking too. Needs complete front end overhaul rubbers gone in just about every joint and shocks all around. Starter is just about gone needs replacement. Exhaust leak as well and suspect cat converter needs to be ripped out.

Still looks good though. Wish I could put that 01 limited engine and 5 speed auto drive train in the 87. Sucker would be unstopable and get 20+ MPG.

Where is MudRaider(Frank)? Sold him a brand new weber carb for one of his collection few years ago. He could get anything running and loved his 88 two door. Saw a few pics of it buried in the mud. He would take that thing everywhere.

I don't know John. maybe you met a few of their mothers at a Poison concert in the late 80's-early 90's. You may want to check on that.

I've been Mia as well. Moved to NoVA a few years ago, married, expecting twins in February, motor messed up in the Montero. Waiting to get funds to put rebuilt back in. Been busy and def miss posting.

Ray Miles, last I checked sold his 1st gen and got a Rubi. Ran into him several years ago by accident when he visited friends in Charlotte. Would be great to hear from him.

What about Bretwalda, Reuben and Icysyrup?

Seems like a lifetime ago now. Bought a business and started another - a 200K+ 97 F150 gets me around now and the space in the garage the mitsu occupied is now full of aluminum extrusions.

A Miller tig, a mig, 5 CNC's, a metal lathe, and no time to use them on fun stuff - thats how life goes I guess.

FWIW If you're looking to get into cnc - gryphoncnc.com is me <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Sure was... I miss the "BigBlue" days!

I learned most of what I know about cars today from reading this forum back in college. I didn't even know what a "locker" was and when I saw Lloyd's red Gen 1 when I did an internet search on these trucks before I bought my first car (an 87 Montero) I knew I had to have it.

13 years later I am still driving a Montero.. although it mainly carts Luggage, Golf Equipment, and tools and my butt to the airport and back <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Still have both Monteros, though. I don't believe I'll ever get rid of the 87. I've had it damn near as long as my wife and longer than my kids.

Yes, Phil has/had the bull bar. I sold the 93 5-6 years ago. It is now in Costa Rica. A true world traveler. For some weird reason I always liked the fine orange outback dust behind the panels. The ARB compressor and locker were awesome.

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 05/19/15 06:04 PM

I always wondered what happened to Rodney? I bought my 95sr off him. I have a few pics of the late 99 and early 2000's Jeep Miller Trail runs that we did down here with him, KevinC and a few of the Trooper guys including Nick.

I sold my SR when we got the Leaf and Tesla to a guy out in Thousand Oaks. Don't know if he ever joined on here. I told him about this place. He had GRAND plans!

And speaking of T.O. Johnny boy finally got rid of his Raider <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" /> I was going to buy it but he never told me before he sold it.

I still have REDCAR! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Runs like new still! (Kevin, if you can believe that! Original build!) Just auto trans sucks! I need some new shoes. 13 year old BFG's are DOA now.

And my Dad still has BLUECAR <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Paint is kinda meh but solid as a rock!

I was reg'd back in 97 until Kerry (BigBlue) kicked me off or whatever.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/nana.gif" alt="" />

Ohh fun times

No problem buddy! I actually now remembered that there's ONE MORE vehicle that I owned! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I had BRONZY, a 91 2dr V6 that was pristine, and I sold it when I bought the SR off Rodney to a woman who lived up in BigBear.

That would have made me single at the time with 5 cars <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> so Bronzy had to go but sad now that I did. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/barf.gif" alt="" />

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

And then some of the Old Miller Year 2000 gang.. Dat, Rodney, John, the Trooper Dudes???

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

I still have all my images, trip stuff, build stuff conversion pics, transmission from HELL stuff, etc <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I always thought this was the best journey.. REDCAR was always underpowered... that damn crappy carb.. found a guy on here who claimed he converted his to a Starion setup!

He lived fairly close to me, and said he was going "junking" (a term commonly used for a true Mitsu addict) so my ex-wife and I met him there...

Up pulls this nice blue Raider.. with a turbo sound! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
[Linked Image]

Open the hood to find this.. (ex-wife's red hair in the background.. lol)
[Linked Image]

I think that day we all talked til almost the sun went down! (seem to be common with us! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )

As the months went on, I was going to piece together my Turbo system and Kevin was going to help me with it and then I get a call and he sends me this... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
[Linked Image]

Someone T-Boned him, and the vehicle was totaled so I bought it from the insurance and swapped over the components and rebuilt the engine.
[Linked Image]

Not long after that, Kevin got the bug again and shows up with this...
[img]http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/e251839df37c8313fcdc6f690e426b45.jpg[/img]
And of course swaps in a turbo! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> but if memory serves me correctly... gets into another accident <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

I think we were all Mitsu crazy during that time!
[img]http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/6b537ebe1521479bdb03e7bbf5dc078e.jpg[/img]

So, I ended up getting a divorce (marrying again) and didn't talk to Kevin in awhile.. but then we hooked up and met again... This time he bought a another Raider!
[img]http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/007808c3fb4351beacfa25dd56165672.jpg[/img]

I knew that he met someone, moved up to OR and he finally got to build his dream garage! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> This was the last time I saw him <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> I don't think there was many turbo converted 2 dr vehicles around...

[img]http://hostthenpost.org/uploads/61de346415764a0e83fc98744f89ffdd.jpg[/img] This was probably the most Turbo Montero's in one place ever!

Sorry for the pic size guys.. hopefully your browsers do autosize..

Love reading this thread... takes me back. Great story and pics Jason! Miss all you guys. The other day I was talking to my wife and she said something about "her truck" and I realized it was true. After I sold the gen2 diesel and we got a gen3 to replace her Outlander, it kind of became hers. Sure, I like the gen3 - comfortable, lots of power with that 3.8... but... Its not really the same... I haven't been on here much, since I don't feel like I have much to contribute anymore - the gen3 does its thing without complaint, and I drive the SportBack as a DD... but something is missing.

I think maybe I need another project? Got something in mind, but have to save some money first. In the meantime, great to see what you veterans have been up to. Doesn't seem to matter how much time goes by - when you check back in here, you're one of the family!

I think kevinC has had a major influence on all of us from that early 4x4wire time period. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Also can't forget "mitsutech" who was the first known(on the wire and vmag) to have front(4cyl diff too) and rear lsd's last i spoke with him had to have been at least 10 years ago on the phone after i saw his 2 dr for sale(he lives(d) here in az) he had purchased a 95 sr, as his replacement and i havn't heard from him since.

It's been awhile. Been a few changes in the last 6yrs...

Some alterations I made before abandoning it in the woods for the past 4yrs are:
-Dropping a log on the hood from ~ 10'
-Backing up in the woods and hitting a tree square in the spare tire folding the back door in half
... both of those I managed to pull out. You'd never know the difference.

Yes.. back in the day.. late 90's early 2000s.. The company I co-owned converted all the legal documents that Erin Brockovich was famous for (Ed Massery's law firm).

Then we started on DICOM stuff and medical Xrays, etc, etc.

While I was doing that stuff out in Ventura, I met KevinC we bonded and became good friends, and I scanned all his factory Turbo manuals and reg Mitsu manuals... and a few other users here sent me their stuff as well..

$hity ebayers tried to sell the PDF's as their but you could see Kevin's and my handwriting on them smile

Mitsu USA tried to sue me for that and my domain.. (montero4x4.com) for which I still own.. and won..

anyways... good times! I miss the group and the outings

I still have my copy of those pdf's somewhere. We sure had good times. I'm hoping we can have a "family reunion" somewhere in the middle and have a weekend of wheeling and have bonfires and beer or whatever

Great to see that people who made many sites I look at some still around. It's great the time and contribution they have made. I have two very young kids and hate that I can't do the testing modifying and wrenching they did.

I still check in occasionally, still no Mitsu but the idea of a monster SWB lurks in my head and drives me to the edge on a regular basis. crazy

Nice to see some of the usual suspects still hang out here.

Well look what the cat dragged in! How are you party? Still rocking your van? I hope you have shag carpet on the dash by now? Good to see you still check in on occasion!
Posted By: PartyTruck

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA...java - 05/15/16 10:45 AM

Yup still got the van. It's just too bad the Ford part of the Wire is too hung up on old Broncos, Xploders and how to put their old D18 back into service, otherwise I'd be here every day.

Still on the lookout for a Gen1 SWB but they are rare as hens teeth over here due to rust issues.

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA...java - 05/15/16 06:36 PM

I gave away two SWBs in the last few years for lack of other's interest. One went directly to the crusher following a good strip, the other went indirectly to the crusher because the other party left it on the neighborhood roadside too long and it was towed.

Randomly decided to check in after years away...
How's it going guys? Good to see some of you still around. My old silver Mighty Max went for scrap several years back. After I stripped the dual t-cases from my Montero, I sold it to a guy that shipped it to Africa.
Still have my blue project Max around somewhere...
Somehow I ended up with a Jeep in the garage too. Still not sure how that happened. blush

Haven't signed in here in a long time. Still own the Campraider and the black Raider, two Starions and the 4x4 Arrow P/U. Plus I still have a shed full of turbo blocks and parts. I don't do anything with it all. It just sits around taking up space.I learned a bunch from this site and meet some great people online and in person. Had some great off road adventures too.
Someone should put me out of my Mitsubishi.

Started looking for some parts for my Montero and saw this thread... It's been non-op'd since '08, one of the tires needs some air, but otherwise the same. I pretty much use it for temporary storage when I'm home on vacation (like right now).

Still living in hell (I mean, Kalifornia). Still driving big trucks that can't drive off-road. No new kids, still married to the same awesome lady.

Still dreaming about one day fixing my Montero.

What are you seeking?

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 02/21/17 02:56 AM

Time and money, primarily. Lol.

I need to either rebuild the transmission or replace it and the transfer case with an automatic. If I go auto, I can pick up an NP231 locally and get a better low-range. Otherwise, i need a full V5MT2 bearing/synchro kit and a clutch.

I finally bought a manifold spreader so I can get all the bolts into the exhaust manifold. Maybe it'll pass smog after that. Lol.

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 02/21/17 06:55 AM

Hi All,

It's been a while and decided to check in. I wasn't as active on the Wire as all of you, but definitely learned a lot. My stable has changed over the years. Gave my Montero Sport to my parents and combined my stock 88 with the '88 Panty Raider that I bought off jerzboy. Still have a bunch of parts to install from Russell (rxinhed), but my awesome wife and 3 kids have a way of chewing up all my time!

Currently rolling around in a Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition. Never getting rid of the Monty/Raider!

Danny, do you still have your beast?! Seeing that picture reminded me of some fun times. My wife (you met Kristi before we were married) and I really miss the ol' Montero.

rxinhed - I don't have any recent pics just some from back when I was working on it about ten years ago. Also, I'm so out of date with this forum, I'm not even sure how to post pics. crazy

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 03/03/17 10:29 PM

I guess I should stick my nose in, been awhile since I have been around. I still drive my SR with the 3.8 DOHC in it. I now have a 2002 Monti, first time I put it in low range it had warning alarms go off, just parked it, damn thing. Not to mention the flipper I got it from put some regular ATF in the trans so it is stuck in reverse.

I am planning a project Montero, just planning stage, collecting parts, will be interesting, think of a V55W look alike.

Re: Past Mitsu owners who are currently MIA... - 03/04/17 12:49 AM

Hi Adam,
This is going to be a pretty slow beginning to the build. What I will be doing is a highly modified 2nd gen, "my spare SR" and a 3rd gen I bought that is a bitser, the roof had been cut off to salvage one that a tree fell on. With these I will build a SWB unit body chassis with independent suspension both ends that will get EVO body panels. I have had the mechanical parts for a few years, I am just now getting more serious about finding body parts. I wish I had someone in Japan who could package and ship but I lack resources.

Charlie, to my knowledge, Noah Zimmerman has not made his way to The Wire. At the very least, he's an often importer of parts from the world. He's all over Facebook.

I just joined the "missing in action" list. Sold my Gen3 after 25 years of fun and adventure. It will continue, but with a new owner who looks like he'll take as much care with it as I did.

Just wanted to thank all those who have helped me over the years with tech info and support. It's been a fun web site that I visited just about every day. I'll miss my 92, but time to move on.

Cheers everyone,
Peter
