Very nice, those wheels are pretty sweet, where can I find a set of those at? Great trail pictures, the thumbnails are pretty small though.

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/14/08 10:47 PM

Sorry about the thumbnail pics. New to the pic posting thing. Soon as I get it figured out I'll fix it .

Got those wheels through a retail 4x4 shop here in Calgary. Should be able to get them from anyone that deals with Dick Cepek tires/wheels.

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/15/08 12:34 AM

Great pics, I love wheelin in the snow, great fun. The last time I got to do it I had to break the trail in about 18 inches, I made it up the hill but one could follow me. The full sized Blazers and Broncos had to take the easy way up. I love the DCII wheels also, I've been waiting for them to come out in the metric 6 lug pattern for my 05 F150. I hope they have them by the time my tires ware out.

Dennis

Keep up the fun, Dennis

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/15/08 04:32 AM

They look bigger than 29's, thought you might have got a new set. I'm in the hunt for a set of 33's or 34's to go on the Jeep, but 17" rubber is a bit more pricey than 15".

We should try to do a Edmonton/Calgary sporty owners and former owners run this summer! maybe Defboy will have his back together soon!

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/15/08 04:12 PM

Hey Everet...bumpers, rails & skids are all custom. Left the stock bumpers with a buddy so he could form the new bumpers to resemble them. All 1/4" steel...STOUT!!!!

Iron...if yer going to mount new rubbers on the stock JK wheels it's gunna be more $$ for sure. Maybe consider after market 15" wheels so you can use less expensive rubbers .

Sorry to hijack. But I recently saw a post somewhere that they couldn't go to 15" rims on a new JK due to the calipers and rotors being a lot bigger than the TJ.

Food for thought.

Looks really awesome!

I like the Basket, wheels, flares, tires, bumpers and suspension lift.

I would get black teflon center caps for the rear + spare

Also tint

Awesome, Truly Awesome

You can run 'some' 15"s steel rims, the alloys are to thick but I've been told you can get 15 craggers on with no problem. A set of 5 17" 33's is about $500 more than a set of 5 15" 33's. Go figure they have less rubber??

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/16/08 12:39 AM

Thats what I have allways said, same size tire + bigger hole in the middle = less rubber. To a tire company it = more money.

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/16/08 03:21 AM

Thanks for the kudos guys!!!

Still a couple things to do...swap in the TJ coils, adjustable panhard bar(soon as Dave has time to figure out how much $$ I gotta give him), coat the bumpers, rails & rockers with Gator Guard, snorkel & the tune up stuff(have already opened up the exhuast & dropped in a K&N). Might look into the tint but the kids like the view without the tint.

lookin good rob. bumpers turned out awesome. my front is going to look real similar once it is finished.

that looks like the trail leading up to top of the world in mclean?

if so that trail can be hell even without snow! so much fun.

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/17/08 05:47 AM

Thanks man!!! Top of the World for sure...ya must of been there before. Great thing is even with snow up to our knees & wheeling with folks that all had 33s or bigger the sporty held her own

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/18/08 03:55 PM

such a fun trail. especially the top at the steps! made some believers last year when i made it up, and some of the other rigs couldnt!

were did you find the flares?

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 05/19/08 03:52 AM

Got the flares through www.stmparts.com . When I ordered mine I was told that there were only 3 sets left in North America. I'm pretty sure they're the EGRs. If I remember right email mike@stmparts.com to see if he has any left .

I posted this a couple of weeks ago...and they are EGR.

Availability is another question....

Yeah...the winch is great. Have'nt had to use it yet but traded my Superwinch EPi9000 for the Champion 9500 cuz the Champ is about 30lbs lighter than the Super when mounted on the multimount. Champ will be good enough for the sporty but with the old Cherokee I had, definately needed the robustness of the Super.

NO STUCKAGE for the 'lil grunt' on this run . Pics are courtesy of my buddy ahead of me in his Cherokee on 33s .

Just an FYI, the Super and the Champ are the same winch. Just private labeled for Super. You can get the same thing from Harbor Freight but under the name of Chicago.

G'Day Rob,

Just a quick question on your rear flairs that you have modded to suit. When you cut them did you leave them open or seal off the area where the excess was removed.

Would like to know as I may end up doing something similar. A close up pic of it would be good if you can mange it.

cheers, Chris

G'day back at ya!!!

Sorry but not on the forum much these days...busy with kids & life in general.

Flares are still just left open where I trimmed em off. Might just leave em that way for now but will take a closer look at possibilities when I have time to do my Gator Guard on the rockers.

Digging up and old thread,, But, when i got my flares the plastic molding said, "Made in Australia"
Im imported from USA a part that was made here in Australia!

G'Day GlenK,

I still have the flairs if you are interested in following through with them to chase the number.

I enquired through Boss Products who are the manufacturers of Dura Flairs however I never recieved a reply off them.

I enquired again about 12 months later. this time about using my flairs as a mould to make more and wider especially at the front. They would be interested in doing this however we need amarket tgo keep the costs down.

From memory I posted all this on the forum a while ago.

Cheers Chris

Re: Long overdue pics of the Sporty(so far) - 11/24/10 12:09 PM

Thanks Chris,
I bought my flairs about 2 years ago, with full intention of buying a sportage!
Wider ones would be good!

But it looks like ill be selling the ones I have now my wife is set on a Pajero IO (4 door long wheel base version)

But until we buy a sporty is still an option smile
