Sportage Wagon: Howto fold rear seat?

Sportage Wagon: Howto fold rear seat? - 10/21/09 08:41 AM

Hi,

It might be a dumb question, but I have a KIA Sportage Wagon 2001. There are hindges on the front side of the seat suggesting that I can fold the seat toward the front seat and then fold downt the back rest - but I have not found anyway to do it and the owner manaual contain no guidance on that. Some tech specs sheets on the internet claim the seat is foldable.

Any suggestions?

There should be 1 knob on the top of each rear backrest, nearest the door, next to the headrest.
Pull the knobs upward while pulling the backrest twords the front of the vehicle.
This should fold the backrest down and onto the rear seat.
Make sure your front bucket seats are positioned all the way into the most forward resting position.
There is a lever in front of the bucket seats for this adjustment.
Once the bucket seats are out of the way, you can pull the whole rear seat assembly up and forward into a position resting on and or nearest the front bucket seats.
Hope that helps. Good day.

After it's folded up just don't try to sleep back there, very lumpy! Tried it on an elk hunt, not fun .

This is a great idea I gotta try some time

Only problem is if you're camping and you do this, where you do put all your stuff that was in the car? Outside I guess? lol...

When I'm hillbilly camping like that, extra stuff usually goes under a blue tarp outside the car except important stuff goes on the front seats. Usually sleep with my .45 Long Slide under the pillow...
Only problem is the windows take forever to unfog.

I rarely go into the back seat area. And you will never find me sitting back there! So I was a bit frustrated the first time I unfolded the contraption too. I didn't learn how to do it till the trash got so backed up that I had to unfold it to take it all out. We haul our trash to a dump site. I was yelling at the wife; "Pull your freaking seat forward so we can put the bench up woman"!!! My Bad... Now I have to do it all by myself from now on.

You think that's bad?

One time we were fishing/camping in Wyoming. When we got to our camp site and finished setting up our tents, about 10 PM, my Dad realizes his sleeping bag is MISSING. No extra blankets or anything. I offered to sleep in the car and let him use my tent and bag but he refused. What he did was just sleep on the back seat! Oww... He's short but not THAT short. What a miserable night for him! We didn't even think of folding the seats down, somehow neither of us thought it would be enough room back there.

It was a mystery to me where his bag went, because I KNEW we had packed it. We kept trying to figure out if it fell out of the car, or what.

Next day we drove home, found the bag... it turns out that after I had packed his bag, my Dad was not happy with how I packed the car and started re-packing things, moving stuff around... then while he was doing that, my Mom called him back inside to the phone, and he absent-mindedly carried the bag inside with him. When we got home the bag was sitting on his bed and he remembered the whole thing! LOL!!!!

It's kinda tricky, but you can also fit a small gocart in the back if you fold the seats. Then the kiddies have something to drive.

Nothing better than being able to go somewhere off the beaten path, pull into a little nook, and take a nap. But i prefer to lay the front seat down. Then letem try and find ya.

Guys,

Thanks for the help. Did tried it before asking (not that dumb) - didn't work - maybe there is a problem - will see my local service.

Happy to see I managed to flare a discussion on sleeping out in the car :-)

Re: Sportage Wagon: Howto fold rear seat? - 10/23/09 10:35 PM

OK - dumb after all :-)

Found that there are two latches on the back of the seat which do fold the seat forward. In my defense I will say that I couldn't seen them because they are covered by two pairs of folding seats which I keep for an occasional picnic.

Apparently I was picking on the wrong straps which only allow you to reclaine your seat.. thanks anyway...

Oh, and the floor underneath is lumpy.. will not consider sleeping there..
