looking for info and parts list or diagram of rear suspension - 09/18/13 09:32 PM

I'm trying to find the part name or number of some rubber pads that fell apart on my 1996 2WD Sportage rear springs. If i lift the car up off the rear tires the rear springs literally fall out?! is that normal? Am i missing something there? Need a diagram to see what/if i'm missing parts or something. Also i can't find any coil spring seat for the rear listed anywhere online. I only see front ones...

Try this, it's a website for Kia parts. You do have to sign up for it.

web page

It may not work very well in Firefox so try IE

your shock absorbers are supposed to restrict axle travel to retain the springs, I'd check if yours are the correct items.
Missing the rubber pads wouldn't help either..

I've just had a good look thru my 98-99 service manual, and it doesn't have part numbers for anything at all

Everet might have what you're looking for, if he's still around.

Bump stops I sell won't work with stock springs.
It sounds like wrong shocks or springs are collapsed.
A source for the spring pads is pick-n-pull.

I finally figured out how to add the topic to my favorites. This whole time i figured no one was replying....

Thanks for the info guys. I guess the springs must be broken or cut or something. I doubt whoever had it before put the wrong length of shocks in. I'm thinking of just buying the TJ coil springs (around $50 with shipping) and see what that does. The rubber pads used are another $30! i thought that was weird. and i can't believe they're not available new? I woulda thought for $30 i'd be buying new rubber pieces not decades old ones. Oh well.

well i just ordered two Jeep TJ springs for $50 shipped, (that's the cheapest i could find) the only issue is they're 106A style and are from a jeep with only 40K miles on it. Soo now i have to figure out if that's gonna give me issues with the shocks i have (shocks which i don't know if they're even the right ones. So does anyone know what shocks would work for these springs? I read 1999 rav4 shocks work but require parts (universal adapters?) from a lift kit that i don't have, also is my car going to look or drive terribly now since i have no front lift? I'm just trying to get out of this as cheap as possible and it seems every turn requires more investment...

The 106's will give you about 4 inches of lift on the rear. I can't tell you about driveability because I did everything all at once. Front lift, rear springs. The bilsteins from a rav4 will fit. I don't think there's any modifications necessary, just a tight fit over the bolts that hold them on.

So regular Rav4 shocks work without any extra parts? I saw on upyourkia.com and on another post that using rav4 shocks required some adapter of some kind?

You just need to reuse the steel bushing from the bottom of your stock shocks in the new Rav4 shocks, as these don't come with the steel insert that goes inside the rubber bushing in the bottom shock mount, you will also need to spread the bottom mount on the axle to accept the large Rav4 bottom mount.
