If you're referring to the lower ball joint SSC, it will be going on thru December. Expect a letter sometime between now & then.

Thanks Geek!
I think it was for the 2002 4 Runners and Tacomas.

AZRain, thanks for the sticky!

Some linkys; please note year of vehicles in articles:

http://www.autobuyguide.com/2001/12-aut/toyota/tacoma/recalls/

http://auto-recalls.justia.com/content/05V225000-TOYOTA-4-RUNNER-2002.html

http://www.internetautoguide.com/auto-recalls/67-int/2004/toyota/tacoma/base/

Also keep an eye on www.alldata.com; I haven't seen the recall update in the TSB section yet. Hopefully they'll catch up.

A also saw something about a 2005 recall for tightening some kind of nut on the e-brake pedal of some new rigs; might ask if you've not seen anything yet.

I agree, thanks for the "sticky", it's unusual to see a Toyota be recalled.

Took my 02 in for oil change and dealer actually told me my 02 falls under the recall. having it done later this week. i was waiting to get a letter from toyota first but i guess dealer's actually on top of things for once they said should take a couple hours, ball joint and alignment

Re: 4 Runner recall? - 08/19/05 07:01 AM

Got the recall done today. the campaign number is SSC 50J. I'd say give the dealer a call and ask about it...apparently some are doing it already...i still havent gotten my notice letter from toyota

As others have probably already seen, I found this article on the MSN homepage today. It doesn't seem to mention anything about late model gen 3 4runners, but does include model years 1990-1995. Are there 2 different recalls, or are these for the same issue? link to article is below.

Re: 4 Runner recall? - 09/08/05 02:32 AM

The recall sticky'd here is for the ball joints; the one you and others mention in the T100 section is for the steering linkage.

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 09/08/05 08:27 PM

Which part is this exactly?
Is it the piece that the toe adjusters connect to?

Re: 4 Runner recall? - 09/10/05 01:41 AM

Yes, there are 2 recalls

Unfortunately my other post was merged with this one, and I've received a couple of pm's from folks who are a bit confused.

My first entry was moved/edited into this thread, and pertained to the rod relay recall.

My other entry with 3 links to it in this thread is the original post for the ball joint recall.

Hope that clears the water a bit.

In either case, as someone had mentioned elsewhere, you should insist on a front end alignment to follow up on the maintenance relative to these recalls.

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 09/22/05 07:54 PM

I just made the appointment for this upcoming Wednesday afternoon, apparently i am the first one in the Grand Forks, ND area to have this warranty work done, but at least they had the parts and were ready for me. It was also interesting to see that my truck did go in for the "V06" campaign work in 1998.

it is the only part that doesnt match, not for long. it was also nice of the mechanic to point out that that my valve cover gasket was leaking as if i could not tell myself, how nice of him

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 10/01/05 08:56 PM

hey, i've just call toyota canada & got confirmed that i fall under the recall campaign. Sweet. Question is, does it come with a free alignment too? That would be great as I haven't had one for a over a year! (Hope they'll figure things out with the 32's, balljoint spacers & cranked torsion bars..."most importantly, hope they won't reset the front end back to the stock height...")

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 01/17/06 05:48 PM

I got my recall letter just this last Friday! Kinda surprised to see that in the mail, but hey...

Anyway, they did the replacement yesterday and the truck seems to drive better than it did before I brought it in!

I didn't get a chance to ask if the original steering rod was damaged or was on the brink of being dangerous, but I kinda doubt that it was. Oh well! A free part is a free part!

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 01/19/06 05:36 PM

My 89 4Runner doesn't fall under the relay rod recall. However, it has a salvage title because in was in a front-end collision. I have no idea if this part was damaged and replaced by whomever repaired the damage.

Is there some way for me to tell if my relay rod is one of the defective ones by looking at it?

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 03/08/06 08:51 PM

I bought my 1993 fourrunner in October of 2005. Would I still be eligible for the recall? I dont know how that works.

Call the dealer and give them your VIN if your eligble they tell and then order your parts.I recieved a card from the
dealer called them back they ordered the parts then let me
know when they were in.I called them Mon to make an appointment and I cant get in till Apr 21st, so the sooner
you start the process the sooner you can get it done

the alignment should be done on both (ball joint and relay rod recalls)

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 09/08/06 05:53 AM

i must say, it was an awsome thing getting two letters in the mail in december... 1 for my 90 pickup 4x4, and 1 for my 90 4runner 4x4 sr5.
-pickup- you all shoulda seen the face on the guy at the dealership when i pulled into the dealership with my truck and he seen the odometer... and i already knew my steering was shot dew to a jump earlier that month over a road lol. long story short the truck got over 2 grand into for free. on a 412,000 mile truck!
-4runner- wasnt even on the road! bought it for the motor, used a 1 way plate to get it home. it's nickname is "tetnus" well called the dealership and said "you guys wanna pick it up?" and since i was less than a mile away, they actually did! the guy that came over to get it looks at me and said " has this EVER been washed? or is it just a winter ride?" 44s cant be good in the snow!"(my 85)
anyways toyota is obviously the best customer treating company in my oppinion.

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 01/18/08 03:10 AM

I got mine done this weekend. They set the toe but not the camber. Bottom of my tires are definately angled in. It looks like an old Beetle. So now I have to get it aligned on my own dime. Oh yeah - they noted that my idler arm had play but wanted $307 to repair it. I'll get one at Autozone for $90 thankyou very much.

Re: Toyota '89 through '98 Steering Relay Rod Recall 4Runner, PIckup, T100 - 01/18/08 03:59 AM

They are required to give you a full alignment. I'd go back and speak with the service manager.
