A Little About Myself
Scott & Jenn - 1999

[Updated Jan 2004] I live in south bay area in California and have been here most of my life. After going to college to be an electrical engineer and working in the field for 5 years I realized how mizerable I was and made the switch to law enforcement. I haven't looked back. The picture on the right is myself with my beautiful bride, Jenn.

In 1997 I started writting for Off-Road.com and eventually took over as the section editor of the Toyota section. In 1999 4x4Wire was created and I was part of the original staff that created the site. After serving as the section editor for awhile I had to take a back seat while I began my career change and started my family.

I enjoy writting, wrenching, and wheeling. I've met some great & innovative people in the 4wheeling world, and had the pleasure of visiting some fantastic places while 4wheeling.

Off-Road Experience & My Vehicle
My old 88 4Runner on Big Sluice - Rubicon

My first truck was a used 88 4Runner I bought almost bone stock. Over the few years I owned it I've modified just about every part of this 4Runner. I enjoy the building-up part of this hobby just as much as the actual wheeling.

As a result of the hobby I've learned (and am always learning) fabrication skills, and my tool collection is forever growing. The tool I like most is my 220V Lincoln MIG welder which I've used to create bumpers, nerf bars, and many other modifications.

Currently I'm building a 1966 Toyota Land Cruiser (FJ40) from the ground up. Right now I'm trying to spend more time working on the truck than writing, but I'm sure much of the build-up will be published at 4x4Wire. So far the FJ40 is sitting on custom axles, 38" Swampers, its sprung-over, shackle reversed, and has dual mini-truck Xfer cases. I'm planning to use a Chevy V8 to power the beast.

Living in the middle of such a large state, most of my wheeling is done in California. I've wheeled over Rubicon, the Shasta Mountains, Mojave Desert, Hollister Hills SVRA, Frank Raines SVRA, Hungry Valley SVRA, Pismo Dunes, Bishop, Big Bear, Red Mountain, and the San Bernadino Mountains. On the rare occasions I get to venture out of CA, I've wheeled Mt. Antero in CO, and some great trails in Washington state that I can't remember the names of. :-) I'm hoping my next journey out of CA will be to Moab.

Computer Experience

My first experience with HTML was in early 1997 when someone gave me access to their server and said "have fun." I did!!! I picked up HTML quickly, and created my first web site, a site about my 4Runner. I've been playing ever since. If you'd like to see more pictures of my 88 4Runner and the places it's gone check out my web site at http://staff.4x4wire.com/swilson/
